Pilates can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. To me, Pilates is an effective form of exercise that focuses on strengthening the core. That means everything from the neck to the knees.
My classes involve a series of exercises done standing, sitting or laying on a mat, using optional props like bands, weights and balls, to give you a full body strength workout. After the first class, you'll feel better and after a few weeks, you'll notice positive changes in your strength and posture.
Personally, aside from teaching, I do Pilates exercises a few times per week - or, when I'm really busy - I'll do a daily 10 minute mini-workout in the morning before I get dressed. With this regime, I feel strong and energized. I am able to ward off injuries while running and doing other activities. My posture is better than ever. And I sleep well. I also have lots of energy to enjoy life.
What I like most about Pilates is having the instructor offer verbal cues that help me get the most out of each exercise. I'm always amazed at how lifting my leg a certain way, even 8 or 12 times, can leave me feeling it the next day! Throughout my classes, I'll give you plenty of cues on how to position your body, how to breathe and how to make little adjustments so you get the most from the class.
In my in-person classes, I offer hands-on adjustments to participants who want them. Also, every class has modifications offered constantly, to help every person get the most from each movement. Example of modifications include adjustments for sore wrists, back injuries, scoliosis, knee issues, neck pain, etc.
Pilates is about working within your own range of motion, wherever you are in your strength and health. With time and consistent practice, you'll get stronger. Some people treat Pilates like group physiotherapy. My classes are a welcoming space for all ages, bodies and abilities.
My in-person classes are fun, casual and set to upbeat music. You'll get a full body workout, with a special emphasis on abs and glutes.
All ages are welcome. All experience levels welcome. All bodies welcome. All humans welcome.
